GHSBD organized in 1994 by derby families and volunteers for the benefit of today's youth. Beginning in 2010, Harris County Pct. 3 Hockley Recreational Complex's Derby Track has served as the new home for all of GHSBD’s events. The park is located in Hockley, TX in the northwest corner of the county (Google Maps). Check-out this short YouTube video of the facility made by former Fox 26 newsman Ned Hibbard.
Types of Events & Info:
2017-18 Race Season - GHSBD's racing season to align with the current school year and the NDR's Rally season.
Minimum Age - Kids entering the first grade during the current race season can race in our events as long as they will turn 7 sometime during the school year. This applies to Stock, Super Stock and Super Kids divisions. Kids who want to race a Stock or Super Stock car must have completed a Driver Training session provided by GHSBD.
Helmets - The type of helmet we use is a standard DOT approved bicycle helmet as shown. For Super Kids, New Driver Training, Fun Day Events and "Zero" Gravity Derby it's up to parents to determine the type of helmet their child needs for their safety. For our NDR Rallies the helmets must be like the one pictured (an official AASBD helmet). We do have helmets available at all our events.
Competitive Races - Three NDR sanctioned rallies are held each season for racers that will turn at least 7 during the current school year to a maximum age of 21 for Stock & Super Stock divisions. Our Texas Top Gun Series (TTGS) is comprised of a Fall Rally, a Spring Rally and an End-of-Season Championship Race. Racers earn points for awards by participating in each rally. Awards include trophies, cash prizes and TTGS champ jackets.

Gravity Racing is a “Family Team” Activity -A team consists of kids and adults. Car handling is part of this team activity, which involves lifting cars on and off trailers, positioning them in the starting gates and moving them out of the braking area once they have come to a complete stop. Come experience “The Thrill of the Hill” and learn more about participating and volunteering in this family-oriented sport.
The best way to volunteer is to come to one of our events or attend a monthly board meeting. All meetings are open to everyone and are held the 3rd Wednesday of the month, 7 PM in Derby Barn/Office (NO meeting in December).
GHSBD welcomes both monetary and in-kind donations, and offers various sponsorship levels. As a sponsor and/or volunteer, your organization will be recognized at events and through our social media campaigns. Corporate level sponsors get their name on the back of our GHSBD T-shirts.
All funds that are contributed to the GHSBD organization go toward event costs, equipment, awards, sanctioning fees and insurance.
Trophies and participation medals are awarded at each racing event. Race results are posted for race events during the current season. At our End of the Year Awards Banquet we recognize board members, volunteers and derby participants with special awards.
